Deep Tube Well Company in Bangladesh
Last updated:
A deep tube well company in Bangladesh designs, drills and completes wells that draw groundwater from deep aquifers, then installs the submersible pump that lifts it. Veritas handles well design, drilling, casing and screen, gravel packing, development, pump testing, water quality testing and pump installation for factories, housing projects and institutions.
For many factories, housing projects and institutions in Bangladesh, groundwater is the main water source. A well that is badly designed or poorly completed can pump sand, lose yield within a few years, or deliver water that is unsafe for its intended use. A well that is properly designed and tested gives a reliable supply for many years.
Veritas Technologies Ltd provides deep tube well design and installation as an engineering service. We start from your water demand and site conditions, use ground information such as a sub-soil investigation where available, supervise drilling and completion, and finish with a tested well and a correctly sized pump from our pump motor supply & installation service.
What Is a Deep Tube Well?
A deep tube well is a narrow, cased borehole drilled into a deep water-bearing layer (aquifer). The upper part of the well is lined with blank casing to keep out shallow water and loose soil. Opposite the aquifer, a slotted or wire-wound screen lets water in while holding back sand. A graded gravel pack around the screen acts as a filter, and a submersible pump lowered into the well lifts the water to the surface.
Shallow vs deep tube well
The table below compares the two common well types used in Bangladesh.
| Shallow tube well | Deep tube well | |
|---|---|---|
| Aquifer tapped | Upper, shallow aquifer | Deeper aquifer below confining layers |
| Pump type | Hand pump or surface suction pump | Submersible pump or line-shaft pump inside the well |
| Lift limit | Limited by suction lift; fails when water level falls too low | Pump sits below water level, so falling levels are less critical |
| Typical yield | Low to moderate | Moderate to high, depending on aquifer and diameter |
| Water quality | More exposed to surface contamination and, in some areas, arsenic | Often better, but must be tested at every site |
| Typical users | Households, small farms | Factories, housing projects, institutions, municipal supply |
| Cost and design effort | Lower | Higher; needs proper design, drilling and testing |
Who Needs a Deep Tube Well?
- Factories needing process water, boiler feed, cooling or washing water.
- Dyeing, washing and textile units with high daily water demand.
- Housing projects and apartment buildings outside reliable piped supply.
- Hospitals, schools, universities and other institutions.
- Commercial buildings and hotels wanting a secure secondary source.
- Agricultural and landscaping projects needing irrigation water.
How Is a Deep Tube Well Designed and Drilled? Step by Step
- Assessment of water demand: daily volume, peak flow and intended uses, including whether the water will be used for drinking.
- Desk study of local hydrogeology, nearby well records and any site investigation data.
- Preliminary well design: target depth, drilling and casing diameters, materials and pump size.
- Drilling by direct rotary (mud circulation) or reverse circulation, with soil samples collected and logged at regular depth intervals.
- Final design based on the borehole log: screen position and length, slot size and gravel pack grading.
- Installation of casing and screen, placement of gravel pack, and a sanitary seal near the surface to keep out contaminated water.
- Well development by air-lift, surging or pumping until the water runs clear and sand-free.
- Pump test to measure yield and drawdown, followed by water quality sampling.
- Installation of the submersible pump, rising main, cable, well head and control panel, then commissioning.
How Are Casing, Screen and Gravel Pack Selected?
Casing
uPVC casing resists corrosion and is widely used for wells of moderate depth and diameter. Steel casing offers higher strength for deep or large-diameter wells but must be protected against corrosion, particularly where groundwater is aggressive or iron-rich.
Screen
Slotted uPVC screens are economical; wire-wound stainless steel screens give a larger open area and better resistance to clogging. Slot size is chosen from the grain size of the aquifer sand so that fine particles are held back without restricting flow.
Gravel pack
The gravel pack is a graded, clean, rounded filter material placed between the screen and the borehole wall. Correct grading stops sand from entering the well and protects the pump. Poorly graded or dirty gravel is a common cause of sand pumping and early well failure.
Pump Test and Water Quality Testing
A pump test confirms what the well can actually deliver. Typical tests include a step-drawdown test at increasing pumping rates, a constant-rate test, and a recovery test after pumping stops. The results give the sustainable yield and the pumping water level used to select the pump and set its depth.
Water quality must be checked before the well is put into service. Arsenic is a known groundwater concern in parts of Bangladesh, so it is a standard parameter. Other common parameters include iron, manganese, chloride or salinity in coastal areas, hardness, pH, total dissolved solids and bacteriological tests. Results are compared with national drinking water standards or with the quality needed for your process, and treatment is recommended where needed.
Pump and Power Supply for Your Well
The submersible pump and motor are sized from the pump test results and the delivery head to your overhead tank or treatment plant. The panel includes protection against dry running, overload and phase failure. For sites with unreliable grid supply, a standby generator keeps water flowing during outages, and for agricultural wells a solar irrigation pump system can reduce running costs.
Permissions and Local Requirements
Rules for installing a deep tube well differ between areas and depend on the purpose and size of the well. Check with the local authority before drilling; in WASA service areas a permission may be needed, and DPHE guidance may apply to tube well construction and siting. We can provide the technical details authorities usually request, such as location, depth, diameter and expected abstraction.
What Do You Receive?

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a shallow and a deep tube well?
A shallow tube well draws from an upper aquifer and usually uses a hand pump or surface suction pump, which can only lift water from a limited depth. A deep tube well is drilled into deeper aquifers and uses a submersible or line-shaft pump placed down the well. Deep wells generally give higher yields and, in many areas, more reliable water quality.
How deep should a tube well be?
Depth is set by local hydrogeology, not by a fixed figure. The well must reach an aquifer with enough yield and acceptable water quality, and the screen is placed in that layer. Logs from nearby wells, available government data and the drilling samples themselves guide the final depth. We confirm the design once the borehole log is known.
Is groundwater from a deep tube well safe to drink?
Not automatically. Arsenic is a known groundwater concern in parts of Bangladesh, and iron, manganese, salinity in coastal areas and bacterial contamination can also occur. Every new well should be tested before use for drinking. If results exceed national standards, options include screening a different aquifer or installing suitable treatment.
Do I need permission to install a deep tube well?
Requirements vary by location and use. In WASA service areas a permission may be needed, and other local authorities may have their own rules for large abstraction wells. DPHE also publishes guidance on tube well installation. Check with the local authority before drilling; we can help you prepare the technical information they usually ask for.
What is a pump test and why is it needed?
A pump test pumps the finished well at a controlled rate while water levels are measured. It shows the well's sustainable yield and how far the water level drops (drawdown) at that rate. These results are used to select the correct submersible pump, set its depth and avoid over-pumping that could damage the well or draw in poor-quality water.
How much does deep tube well installation cost in Bangladesh?
Cost depends on well depth, drilling diameter, ground conditions, casing and screen materials, gravel pack, development and pump test duration, water quality tests, pump and motor size, control panel and site access. A factory production well costs more than a domestic well. Send us your water demand and location for a quotation.
How long does a deep tube well last?
A well designed with suitable screens, a correct gravel pack and a sanitary seal, and pumped within its tested yield, can serve for many years. Life is shortened by corrosion of steel casing, screen clogging from iron or fine sand, and over-pumping. Periodic monitoring of yield, water level and water quality helps detect problems early.
