Fire Safety Design Firm in Bangladesh

Last updated:

A fire safety design firm in Bangladesh plans how a building will protect people from fire and produces the engineering drawings to build it: escape routes, fire compartments, alarm and detection layouts, sprinkler and hydrant systems and fire pump sizing. Veritas prepares these designs to BNBC 2020 and NFPA standards, ready for FSCD submission and installation.

Fire safety in a building is decided long before the first extinguisher is mounted. Stair positions, corridor widths, the size of fire compartments, the route of hydrant mains and the capacity of the fire pump are all design decisions. If they are wrong on paper, they are expensive or impossible to correct once the building is finished and in use.

Veritas Technologies Ltd works as a fire safety design & drawing consultancy firm for factories, warehouses, commercial buildings and high-rise projects. This page covers the design and drawing stage. For supply and installation of equipment see our fire protection and detection system service, and for the submission and approval process see fire safety plan with FSCD approval.

What Does a Fire Safety Design Firm in Bangladesh Do?

A fire safety design firm turns the building's architecture and use into a coordinated fire strategy. It determines how many people will occupy each floor, how they will escape, how fire and smoke will be contained, how fire will be detected and how it will be controlled or extinguished. Each of these decisions is calculated, drawn and specified so that the architect, structural engineer, MEP engineers and installation contractor all work from the same information.

Good fire design is integrated, not added at the end. Stair cores, fire-rated walls, pump rooms, water tanks and riser shafts all need space and structural support, so they must be agreed with the architectural and structural designers early.

Who Needs a Fire Safety Design Company in Bangladesh?

  • Developers and owners of new factories, warehouses and multi-storey buildings that need fire design before construction.
  • Existing factories that must upgrade fire protection after a fire safety assessment or buyer audit.
  • Owners changing a building's use, for example from storage to production, which changes occupant load and hazard.
  • Architects and consultants who need a specialist fire engineering input for their design team.
  • Projects preparing drawings for FSCD submission and approval.

If you are still at the concept stage, our factory design and architectural design teams can integrate fire design from the start.

What Does a Fire Safety Design & Drawing Consultancy Firm Deliver?

The table below summarises the main design deliverables for each system. The exact set depends on the building type, height and occupancy.

Egress and means of escape

Escape design starts with the number of people on each floor. From that we calculate the required exit width, the number of protected stairs and the maximum travel distance to an exit, and we check that exits are remote from each other so one fire cannot block every route. Emergency lighting and exit signs are laid out along every route.

Fire compartmentation

Compartments limit how far fire and smoke can spread. We define fire-rated walls and floors, protect stairs and shafts, and separate high-risk rooms such as generator, boiler, chemical store and electrical rooms. Doors, dampers and service penetrations are scheduled so the fire rating is not lost in construction.

Sprinkler and hydrant hydraulic design

Sprinkler and hydrant systems are designed by hydraulic calculation, not rule of thumb. We size pipes so the most remote heads and hydrants receive the required flow and pressure, and use the result to set fire pump duty and water storage. The calculation report is part of the drawing set.

How Is Fire Safety Design Done?

  1. Review architectural drawings, occupancy, processes and stored materials to classify the hazard.
  2. Agree the fire strategy with the owner and design team: escape concept, compartments and systems required.
  3. Calculate occupant loads and design means of escape and compartmentation.
  4. Design fire detection and alarm layouts and system architecture.
  5. Carry out hydraulic design of sprinkler and hydrant systems and size fire pumps and water storage.
  6. Coordinate with structural, electrical and plumbing designs to resolve clashes and space needs.
  7. Prepare construction drawings, specifications and bill of quantities.
  8. Support FSCD submission, respond to comments and revise drawings as needed.

What Do You Receive?

  • Fire strategy report describing the design basis and standards used.
  • Means of escape and compartmentation drawings for every floor.
  • Fire alarm and detection layouts, riser diagram and cause-and-effect matrix.
  • Sprinkler and hydrant layouts with hydraulic calculation reports.
  • Fire pump, pump room and water storage design.
  • Technical specifications and a bill of quantities for tendering.
  • Drawing set formatted for FSCD submission.

Which Standards Apply to Fire Safety Design in Bangladesh?

The Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC 2020) Part 4 sets the fire protection requirements for buildings by occupancy and height, including means of escape, fire separation and the fire protection systems required. The Fire Prevention and Extinguishing Act 2003 is the law under which the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) regulates fire safety and licensing.

For detailed system design, the NFPA standards are widely used and accepted by consultants, insurers and buyers in Bangladesh: NFPA 101 (Life Safety Code) for egress, NFPA 72 for fire alarm and detection, NFPA 13 for sprinklers, NFPA 14 for standpipe and hose systems and NFPA 20 for stationary fire pumps. Where BNBC and NFPA differ, the design follows the more demanding requirement unless the approving authority directs otherwise.

What Does Fire Safety Design Cost in Bangladesh?

We quote per project. The main cost factors are:

  • Building floor area, number of storeys and height.
  • Occupancy and hazard classification, which drive system requirements.
  • Number of systems to design: egress only, or full alarm, sprinkler, hydrant and pump design.
  • New building or upgrade of an existing one, including survey needs.
  • Availability of up-to-date architectural drawings in CAD format.
  • Whether FSCD submission support and revisions are included.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a fire safety design company in Bangladesh provide?

A fire safety design company in Bangladesh produces the calculations, layouts and drawings for a building's fire safety measures: escape routes, fire compartments, fire alarm and detection layouts, sprinkler and hydrant systems, fire pump and water storage sizing, plus the specifications and calculations behind them. The drawings are used for FSCD submission, contractor tendering and installation.

What is the difference between fire safety design and a fire safety plan?

Fire safety design is the engineering work: calculations, system layouts and construction drawings. A fire safety plan is the document set submitted to the Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) to obtain approval, and it relies on that design. Many projects need both. Veritas handles the design here and the plan and approval process through its fire safety plan with FSCD approval service.

Which standards are used for fire safety design in Bangladesh?

The main local references are BNBC 2020 Part 4 on fire protection and the Fire Prevention and Extinguishing Act 2003. For system detail, designers commonly use NFPA 101 for means of escape, NFPA 72 for alarm and detection, NFPA 13 for sprinklers, NFPA 14 for standpipe and hydrant systems and NFPA 20 for fire pumps. Buyer or insurer requirements may add further criteria.

Can you design fire protection for an existing factory?

Yes. Existing buildings often need design work after a fire safety assessment, for example adding a sprinkler system, upgrading the alarm, enclosing stairs or creating separated generator and boiler rooms. We survey the building, check what can be reused, and design upgrades that fit the existing structure and production layout while meeting the required standard.

Do you also install the systems you design?

Design and installation are separate stages, and you can appoint us for either or both. Our fire protection and detection system service covers supply and installation of alarm, sprinkler, hydrant and pump equipment. Keeping design independent also lets you tender installation to other contractors using our drawings and specifications if you prefer.

What does fire safety design cost in Bangladesh?

Fees are driven by floor area and height, what the building is used for and how hazardous that use is, how many systems need designing, new-build versus existing building, the availability of architectural drawings, and whether FSCD submission support is needed. Send us your drawings and occupancy details and we will reply with a design scope and written quotation.
